Substack Foundations: Your Why & Content Pillars

This is a live, hands-on workshop to build the foundation every Substack publication needs: a clear why and a set of content pillars.

Your why is knowing exactly who you're writing for and the transformation your publication offers. Your pillars are the three or so themes you write about — enough range that you're never bored, enough focus that a reader instantly gets what you're about. Most people skip both and rush ahead to Notes strategies and long-form content — then feel the cost about eight weeks in, on the first morning they don't feel like publishing and can't quite remember why they started.

We'll fix that, together, in two hours.

You'll leave with:

  • A why with a face attached: the specific reader you're writing for, and the change you want for them.

  • Three content pillars: pressure-tested with nine real post ideas — a month of content before you've written a word.

  • The single thread that ties them together: the one idea underneath all three content pillars that makes them feel like they belong to one publication.

We'll write together and break into small groups to test our ideas on each other — you'll be doing the real work live, not just watching.

The details:

  • Live on Zoom ~2 hours.

  • Limited to 40 seats, so breakout rooms stay intimate and everyone gets a chance to share.

  • Bring a notebook and an open mind.

Come whether you're on post 1 or post 100. I'd love to build this with you.
